FaithQuest is the new Sunday school program at Western Hills Church of Christ and is based on the Workshop Rotation Model (WoRM).  This model uses a multi-intelligence approach to teaching the Bible to our 1st through 5th graders.  FaithQuest, is a kid-friendly, Christ-centered Bible class program that teaches major Bible stories and concepts using workshops designed to make learning fun, but also to increase depth of knowledge.  It’s also great for teachers because they teach the same lesson in their workshop to a different age group each week.  FaithQuest uses curriculum that will cover the entire Bible over the course of four years.

We’re currently using the following four workshops – Geography/Culture, Drama/Puppets, Music/Memory, and Storytelling.  We may use Science, Art, Cooking and Games workshops in the future.

In our Geography/Culture workshop, we’ve transformed a classroom into a scene from Bible times, complete with a handmade pen for animals, murals, timelines and wall-size maps.  In this workshop, kids will learn about what it was like to live during the time of the Bible story and also develop an understanding of the geography of the time.

In our Drama/Puppet workshop, we’ve transformed a classroom into a theater, complete with stage, curtain, and spotlights.  Children will write or act out scripts related to that rotation’s Bible story and they may also perform puppet shows.  As you can imagine, this is an active workshop that allows kids to move around and use their creativity.  This workshop teaches children the practical application of the Bible story, while also developing puppet and acting skills.

In our Storytelling workshop, children step into a tent and hear the lesson told by a Bible character in the story.  Imagine hearing the story of the flood told by Noah’s wife or the story of Jesus’ birth told by Mary.  This workshop touches on all aspects of the Bible story and is the foundation for each rotation.

Our Music/Memory workshop incorporates acappella music into the Bible story.  Music is an excellent tool for teaching and helps reinforce the concepts learned in the other workshops.  This is also an active workshop where kids move around and interact with one another.

Here is a typical Sunday in FaithQuest:

9:20am – Children gather in our Kids 4 Christ room and meet with their Group Leaders to work on memory verses, write prayer requests or play Bible games.

9:30am – Our children’s minister leads the kids in a few songs and gets them pumped up for their workshops.

9:40am – Group Leaders take the children to their workshop and the teachers deliver their lessons.

10:15am – Children are dismissed from their workshop to a parent/guardian, excited about their FaithQuest experience.

We invite you to come experience FaithQuest this Sunday.
